Prize Calendar Fundraiser

Hi Everyone!

I’d like to thank you for your ongoing support of the Alaska Nanook Hockey program. The Face-Off Club is working on several fundraising initiatives. In light of your past support we would like to extend the opportunity to support Alaska Nanook Hockey in a fundraising endeavor.

The Face-Off Club is currently developing a prize calendar which is due to be available at the beginning of next season. This calendar will be unique, in that it will not be your standard year, but instead will begin in October and run through the following September. We wish to reflect hockey season and feel like this will be an excellent opportunity to do so. The calendar will highlight important dates throughout the hockey season, such as the schedule, Coach’s luncheons, etc. The purchase of a calendar will also include a raffle ticket that is eligible to win prizes. Prizes will vary and will be a chance for fans to win Nanook Swag (for example, jerseys, signed pucks, invitations to the Coach’s luncheon, jackets, gift certificates from supporting sponsors, etc.) every week of the year. (Each ticket has 52 chances to win.) Winners will be announced on the Face-Off Club webpage and Facebook page each week.

Ways to support the Alaska Nanook Hockey Team Calendar fundraiser:

1) Purchase a calendar for $30 (Quantities are limited. We will be printing 500 calendars, all proceeds will benefit Alaska Nanook Hockey.)

2) Be a sponsor. (Your $100 donation is tax deductible and we invite you to submit a basic logo (no call to action elements) which will be featured on the calendar pages in our sponsor section.

3) Donate a prize to be raffled. (A gift card or gift certificate for your establishment, we are suggesting a $50 value, but that amount is at your discretion.)

4) Spread the word! Tell your friends about the prize calendar, show people your calendar, pass along Kim’s contact info.

The potential for this project is to raise $15,000 for the team. We are asking for $100 donations and/or the donation of gift certificates for use as a weekly prize. Businesses that wish to donate will have their logo included inside the calendar as a supporter of Alaska Nanook Hockey. Any business that also chooses to donate a gift certificate will get a second mention on the designated week for that particular prize. Space will be limited for the logos, therefore, we are extending this opportunity to the first 50 businesses that reply. Supporting sponsors will also be thanked on the Face-Off Club Facebook page and on our website.

If you are an individual who would like to donate $100 to this project, we would be happy to recognize your contribution in our list of supporters. Anyone who wishes to reserve a calendar and/or become a sponsor may contact Kim Watson: kimwatson71767@gmail.com

Calendars will be sold for $30 each and all of the proceeds will support Alaska Nanook Hockey. Our plan is to print 500 calendars. To be included as a sponsor on this project please contact Kim Watson by June 30, 2017.

Thank you,

Kim Watson

Last home series!

*UAF vs. LSSU*
The Lake Superior State Lakers come to town this Friday and Saturday for a pair of games at the Carlson Center.  The Lakers are currently one point ahead of us in the standings (in a tie with Northern Michigan). And, with us tied in total points with Alabama Huntsville it’s going to be a huge scramble for teams to get points in these final 2weeks of the regular season.

*RADIO/VIDEO*
As usual Bruce Cech will by broadcasting this Friday and Saturday, beginning with his pregame show at 6:30 pm Alaska Time.  Or you can catch the video feed at WCHA.tv for a fee.

*LUNCHEON FRIDAY*
As usual there will be a Luncheon on Friday at noon in the Pioneer Room at the Carlson Center.  Both coaches and the UAF Seniors are expected to speak.  No word yet on what’s on the menu this week.  Cost is $15.

*TIEBREAKERS*
As a reminder-With several teams tied in the standings.  I thought it might help if I reminded you of how tiebreakers work in the WCHA.  The tie breaking rules are quite complicated as they provide details should not all teams play each other in 4 head-to-head regular season games, so Tim Bauer provided a condensed version of the rules below:

A) The team with the most points in head-to-head contests will be granted the higher seed.

B) If still tied, then the team with the greater number of conference wins (in regulation and/or 5-on-5 overtime) will be granted the higher seed.

C) If still tied, the recipient of the highest seed shall be determined by comparison of the points percentages of the tied teams, against the highest ranked WCHA teams successively, until the determination is accomplished.

D)  If still not determined, the higher seed will be determined by a team’s “winning margin” during conference contests. “Winning margin” is *goals for* *minus* *goals against*.

@ Northern Michigan

*OFF TO MARQUETTE*
The Alaska Nanooks fly out tonight to Marquette, Michigan where they will
take on the Northern Michigan Wildcats on Friday and Saturday. Both games
begin at 3:07 Alaska Time.

*LOOKING TOWARDS PLAYOFFS *
The Nanooks are currently in 5th place in the WCHA, 8 points behind Bowling
Green.  With Bowling Green idle this weekend any points this weekend will
bring the Nanooks that much closer to 4th place and a home playoff spot.
But Northern has been a hot team lately going 5-0-2 in their last 7 games
with a 3 straight shutouts.  So, it should be two hard fought games this
weekend as we are looking to improve our chance for a home playoff spot,
and Northern is looking to move into a playoff spot.

*RADIO/INTERNET*
As usual the games will be on the radio (820 AM) and the internet (
820sports.com). Or you can watch the video stream at WCHA.tv for a fee.
